Online Safety

Online Safety is central to the Girls Guild website. Here are a few tips to make sure every Girls Guilder has a fun and safe interaction with our website.

1. Adult supervision. This is the single most important aspect of a safe online experience. Children should always have permission from a parent or guardian before accessing the internet. Children should only use sites that have been carefully vetted by the parent or guardian.

2. Communicating with friends online. This site can be a great tool for kids to communicate with their friends. However, any time a site allows two way communication to flow through it, there is a risk that the person on the other end of the communication may not be who he or she seems. Therefore the best practice is for each child to communicate with friends that he or she has made offline first by setting up chat dates.

When making new friends online, it is important for parents or guardians to screen carefully the people with whom their children communicate. The social connectivity features of the site such as the Google Friend Connect interface in the side bar to the right is a great way for Girls Guild parents to connect with each other and thereby screen the site members with whom their children may communicate.

3. Personal information of children such as full name, address, phone number, etc., should be kept private.

4. Children should never agree to meet online friends in person or speak with them on the telephone without close adult supervision.
