Girls Guild Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting the Girls Guild website. This privacy policy tells you how we use personal information collected at this site. Please read this privacy policy before using the site or submitting any personal information. By using the site, you are accepting the practices described in this privacy policy. These practices may be changed, but any changes will be posted and changes will only apply to activities and information on a going forward, not retroactive basis. You are encouraged to review the privacy policy whenever you visit the site to make sure that you understand how any personal information you provide will be used.

Types of Information Collected

1.  Registration Information. To gain access to certain features of the Girls Guild Site, a visitor must “register” or “sign up” by providing a user name, password, and personal email address of his or her parent or legal guardian if applicable. If the visitor is a minor, he or she is strongly encouraged to use a made-up “screen name” or “user name” (not his or her real name) and only reveal said username to others under parental supervision.

2.  User Profiles. Some users of the site have the ability to create a Personal Pages containing full names, email addresses, websites, instant messenger usernames, and biographical information. These pages are intended for use with parental permission by children aged thirteen (13) and above. Information contained on these Personal Pages is not searchable and is only made available to Third Parties as discussed below.

3.  Communications. The Site has certain features such as Chat Rooms, Bulletin Boards, Instant Messaging, and Personal Pages that require the collection of potentially personally identifiable information (e.g., the information contained in the chat dialogue or bulletin board post) in order to function. This information is only made available to Third Parties as discussed below. In addition, the Site has certain features such as quizzes, games and polls that collect non-personally-identifiable information such as quiz answers.

4.  Cookies. The Site may use cookie and tracking technology depending on the features offered. Cookie and tracking technology are useful for gathering information such as browser type and operating system, tracking the number of visitors to the Site, and understanding how visitors use the Site. Cookies can also help customize the Site for visitors. Personal information cannot be collected via cookies and other tracking technology, however, if you previously provided personally identifiable information, cookies may be tied to such information. Aggregate cookie and tracking information will not be shared with third parties.

Parental Consent Regarding User Information

Girls Guild does not collect Personal Information online from children under the age of thirteen (13) without his or her parent’s consent, except to respond to email questions regarding the Site prior to registration.

Manner of Parental Consent

The providing of a personal email address by the parent or legal guardian of the child under the age of thirteen (13) at the time of registration for the Site will be deemed permission by that parent or legal guardian for the Site to collect the Personal Information from said child as discussed below.

As discussed in detail below, some of services offered by this Site require a signed permission slip by a child’s parent or legal guardian.

Third Party Information Access

1.  Commercial Use of Personal Information. Girls Guild will never sell, rent or otherwise distribute any Personal Information collected to third parties for the purpose of marketing to the Site users. Girls Guild is a “spam-free” zone. Personal Information may, however, be supplied to third party vendors strictly in connection with online purchases of Girls Guild related merchandise. We may also use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order only to complete that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order. We use the information you provide about someone else when placing an order only to ship the product and to confirm delivery.

2.  Website Statistics. Non-personally-identifiable information such as that collected in connection with quizzes, games and polls is only released to third parties in anonymous, aggregate form (e.g., poll results). We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to share with advertisers. For example, we may tell an advertiser that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that Y number of men and Z number of women filled out our registration form, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.

3.  Communications. The use of certain services provided by the Girls Guild site, including, but not limited, to Chat Rooms, Bulletin Boards, Instant Messaging, and Personal Pages, makes potentially personally identifiable information (e.g., the information contained in the chat dialogue or bulletin board post) available to third parties (e.g., other chat room or bulletin board participants). Federal law consequently requires that children under the age of thirteen (13) have verifiable parental consent before using these services. In other words, the Site is required to have proof of parental consent over and above the parental email address provided to the Site upon registration. Thus, in order for a child under the age of thirteen (13) to participate in these services, a parent or legal guardian must complete and return this permission slip to Girls Guild.

A parent can provide verifiable consent for his or her child’s use of Chat Rooms, Bulletin Boards, Instant Messaging, and Personal Pages, etc., to Girls Guild by printing the above permission slip, signing and returning it to Girls Guild by either (1) mail to Girls Guild, 32 Cushing Street, Dover, NH 03825 or (2) fax to (508) 749-6950.

4.  Legal Obligation To Disclose. Girls Guild may release Personal Information when required by law or to public safety officers where it is necessary to protect a child’s safety. We may share information with governmental agencies or other companies assisting us in fraud prevention or investigation. We may do so when: (1) permitted or required by law; or, (2) trying to protect against or prevent actual or potential fraud or unauthorized transactions; or, (3) investigating fraud which has already taken place. The information is not provided to these companies for marketing purposes.

Deletion of Collected Information

A parent or legal guardian can always ask to review or delete the information his or her child has submitted by sending an email to girlsguildinfo@gmail.com or a written request addressed to Girls Guild, 32 Cushing Street, Dover, NH 03825. Requests must include the screen name of the child and any other information which will allow Girls Guild to verify that the requester is the parent of the child whose information is requested. Certain information, however, such as that contained within chat dialogues is not archived and may not be available.
